Bio

Pete Saloutos is a veteran of corporate, advertising and stock photography. His career in commercial photography spans more than 40 years and includes images that appear in materials published by Fortune 500 companies, businesses, magazines and agencies worldwide. Eclectic and wide-ranging, his award winning work includes such diverse subjects as sports, medicine, landscapes, architecture and underwater photography: his targets are always moving.

“Changes pushed by the digital revolution have accelerated the evolution of equipment, software and business models for photographers to light speed over the past twenty-five years. I’m fortunate that a breadth of experience in equipment, techniques and technology gives me the flexibility to pursue my changing interests in photography. From the abstract to the concrete, I’m driven to create compelling images using whatever means meets the challenge: film or digital, available or complex lighting, indoors or outdoors: I enjoy it all…and find great energy and excitement in knowing that my best images lie ahead.”

Pete’s microstock portfolio at http://dreamstime.com sparked his selection as Featured Photographer on the site during the first week of July, 2010. In addition to a 2004 Gold Medal for the Portfolio.com Best Advertising Image in Show, other distinctions of note include his selection as one of Nikon’s “Legends Behind the Lens,” the selection of his rhythmic gymnastics image as a 2004 Olympics international stamp, and a Gold Medal Award in Best Design from the Advancement and Support of Education (UCLA 2004 Calendar).

Pete has two books in progress: a collection of black and white Paris images and a “How To” volume about Microstock Photography. Close to the heart are a just-completed 2011 Centennial Calendar for Venice High School, Pete’s alma mater (http://www.venicehighalumni.com/calendar.html) and a 2010 Calendar for Arms Around Bainbridge, a 29 mile open water swim charitable event around his home island in Puget Washington (http://armsaroundbainbridge.com/).

Pete publishes photo essays and instructional pieces (e.g., “From the East,” a collection of China photos center pieced in PC Photo Magazine, June, 2007) and instructional features (e.g., “The Ongoing Search for New Techniques: High Pass Filtration,” PC Photo Magazine, July, 2009). He also distributes work worldwide through multiple agencies, most recently joining the ranks of photographers at Blend Images.

A sampling of Saloutos clients includes Mentorcorp, USA Today, Bank of America, IBM, Nike, Runner’s World, Pacific Bell, United States Olympic Committee, Nikon, Newsweek, and Federal Express.
